This brings back memories... we saw a similar thing last trip to Yokohama, but at night-time. I'm assuming it's a semi-regular thing down there (though we watched the performance at Minato Mirai 21, which definitely is one of my favourite places to visit. And you're right, you don't need to know the lingo particularly well to enjoy street-performance (though it helps to get some of the jokes of course). Thanks for the post!

Oh yeah, iKnow or smart.fm .. I remember that! I really liked it when they just started out.
The only SRS that I ever used is Anki. There's also applications for iPhone and more. It's the best SRS tool out there :)

Happy Birthday... you don't look a day over... well... that would be telling. Seriously it's great that you've reached the big 6 (ok, it's not a big number, but in blogging years that's old!). I like the idea of bringing in new concepts for your blog... how about things you loved in Japan that you didn't think you would, or vice versa. It's always nice to hear different experiences, or those things that surprised you. It is nice to do retrospectives... perhaps a "then" and "now" series.

I remember visiting Nara in the 1970s when I was studying in Japan. It left a deep impression of peace and beauty. The Buddha has a tremendous presence, and I remember the trees and yes, walking a long way. It's a special place.
